When I have to write an essay, I usually start out by getting something to eat. This is because I can't think on an empty stomach and therefore, need to have something to eat in order to concentrate on my essay. After I have fulfilled my hunger, I turn on a little ambient music, and then just start typing. I try to stop as little as possible and just go with the flow. When I reach the end, I take a break and do something else to take my mind off of my essay. Later that day or some day in the future, I would come back and reread the paper and make any adjustments that I need to make before I go over it with my classmates. Then I fix what needs to be fixed and hand in the final to be graded.
This strategy has always worked out in the end for me as I have never received a grade lower than what I think I deserve. What I find most unhelpful about my writing process is that sometimes I can't just plow through it and when I stop to fix a little part I lose focus on the essay as a whole. So as long as I run through the essay and let my ideas flow, it all works out alright.
